Intro to Gravity Sketch

ACX-488

Take your 2D designs into 3D space as you learn the benefits of VR in the industrial design process. This new course will provide you with foundational knowledge of Gravity Sketch's creation tools and workflow as you understand and experiment with a range of advanced 3D software including the basics of Substance, a material authoring suite, and KeyShot for rendering. Prerequisite: Digital Design 1 or by permission of an ArtCenter advisor. Required: Access to an iPad and an AR/VR headset such as Oculus Quest or Quest 2.

Earn a Digital Badge in Graphic Design

Develop a foundation of layout, design and typography through projects that provide an understanding of hierarchy, grid systems, logo forms, design thinking, design research, visual communication, color, and printing. Students will learn how to document process and professionally present their work. Complete the following courses with a grade of B or better:

 

·       Intro to Graphic Design (ACX-030)

·       Mastering Color for Artists and Designers (ACX-128)

·       Essential Typography (ACX-175)

·       Graphic Design (ACX-332)

 

If you’ve already taken any of these courses in the sequence through ACX within the last 2 years (since Fall 2020), you’re eligible to complete the series and earn the badge.

Earn a Digital Badge in Surface Design

Gain an understanding of surface design concepts and collections, terminology, basic knowledge of software, technical requirements for reproduction, licensing and print on-demand, and build a professional quality portfolio for job search, freelance and licensing presentations. Intro to World Building

“World building” involves the construction of an imaginary world across a variety of disciplines, such as literature, film, TV and games. In this new course, we will analyze examples of effective world building and experiment in developing our own. Explore how civilizations organize themselves from governmental, economic, cultural and socio-political perspectives. Discover how cultures and communities operate in order to create fictive worlds that operate in a logical, coherent and consistent fashion. Textbook: You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Story by Houston Howard. Prerequisite: Intro to Concept Design or by permission of an ArtCenter advisor.

COVID-19 update 08/27/22:

ArtCenter is continuing the indoor mask requirement on campus for Fall 2022.


For ACX students with on-campus courses:
Although most ACX courses this term will be taught remotely, a few will meet in person. 

For those ACX classes that meet on-campus:

  • Medical grade masks will be required in all indoor spaces except when actively eating or if an individual is alone in a space with the door closed.
  • N95, KF94 and KN95 masks are recommended, but medical-grade surgical masks are also allowed.
  • Vaccination records are required for campus-access unless you have requested and received an exemption.
  • Vaccination records should be uploaded 3-5 days prior to your first class meeting.
  • If you are unable to receive the vaccine for medical reasons or strongly held religious beliefs, you will need to request an exemption.

Intro to Spatial Exper. Design
This foundation course will introduce you to the broad range of possibilities within environmental design, a discipline that focuses on a holistic and experiential approach to designing spaces, objects and images. Class projects will range in scope from the design of overall immersive spaces to the detailed elements that define them, focusing on the design and integration of furniture, lighting, materials and graphics. Building of basic skills in concept development and visual communication (including drawings, models and other media) will be covered. Weekly presentations and lectures on significant artists, designers and architects will also take place. Visiting design professionals will provide tangible insight into career paths within environmental design. (Class formerly titled: Intro to Environmental Design)
