Jim Thompson: Judging the Eisner Awards
a free Design History of Comics and Animation online presentation
Monday, November 22 | 4 p.m. PST
Zoom link will be sent 15 minutes before the event.
Jim Thompson is a mild-mannered professional attorney who doubles as an outstanding and outspoken comics scholar/historian/podcaster. He recently served as a judge for this year's prestigious Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, an internationally-respected honor that’s often praised as the comics equivalent of the Academy Awards’ Oscars. Join Jim and Michael Dooley – himself a 2020 Eisner judge and a fellow comics professor/historian – for a no-holds-barred conversation about their insider experiences: the duties, the processes, the frustrations, and… the aftermaths! They'll also deliberate, differ, and dicker over comics in a wide variety of genres and award categories. Audience participation is welcome and encouraged.
This free Zoom event is presented by Michael Dooley's "Design History of Comics and Animation" course and is organized by Humanities & Sciences at ArtCenter College of Design.
