Join us for a screening of the documentary HUZ: Drawn to Life, an intimate portrait of artist and ArtCenter faculty Ron Husband, who broke barriers as the first Black animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios.
There will be a Q&A session with Ron Husband and the documentary filmmaker Don Hahn after the screening.
Ron Husband entered Disney’s rigorous training program in the 1970s. What began as an uncredited role as an in-between animator for The Rescuers in 1975 turned into an illustrious 38-year career with the studio, where Husband worked on animated classics like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King.
HUZ: Drawn to Life paints the story of Husband's journey navigating high-pressure reviews, a life-threatening brain tumor, and his vital contribution to animated classics. The documentary is a celebration of perseverance, faith, and the enduring power of mentorship.
