ACX TEENS COURSE EXPLORING PHOTOGRAPHY TEACHES TEENS TO BOOST THEIR PHOTO SKILLS

In the ACX Teens course Exploring Photography, taught by ArtCenter alumnus David Sotelo (BFA 97 Photography and Imaging), students enhance their photographic skills and personal vision through assignments that include portraiture, fashion, narrative and photojournalism. ACX Teens is ArtCenter’s extension program of art and design courses for high school students in grades 9 through 12.

Students in Exploring Photography learn to construct powerful images that convey their intention and create a body of work that reflects their individual style. The course also includes an examination of contemporary photography.

“Online classes have been an opportunity to focus on conceptual themes over our craft,” says Sotelo. Students can adjust their creativity toward digital publishing through online platforms like Instagram, blogs, zines and interactive media, he adds.

“Photography has evolved into an interdisciplinary medium that includes video, sound, information design and graphic design—giving us so many opportunities to create powerful and articulate experiences for our audiences,” he says.
