Important Updates on Faculty Unionization Effort (050622)

Dear ArtCenter Faculty,

I’d like to provide a couple of important updates regarding the faculty unionization effort.

First, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has scheduled a mail ballot election for all Art Center full- and part-time faculty members except department chairs, managers and supervisors. The NLRB will mail ballots and voting instructions to eligible voters on Monday, May 23, 2022.

Ballots must be received by the NLRB by June 13, so we suggest you mail your ballot by no later than June 7 to ensure that it arrives in time. The ballot count will take place at 2:00 p.m. on June 15, 2022.

Voting is the only way to have your voice heard – whether you are for or against union representation. To be elected, CFT, AFL-CIO needs a majority of the votes cast, not a majority of eligible voters. This means that every single vote matters. Don’t let others make this decision for you.

Second, we have launched a new section of the ArtCenter website – Faculty Life – to provide facts and information about unionization as you consider whether to be represented by a union or maintain your direct relationship with ArtCenter. We want all voters to make a fully informed decision. https://www.artcenter.edu/facultylife

I look forward to participating in a respectful and thoughtful conversation about the future of our College.

My best,

Karen Hofmann
