ArtCenter Student Work Featured in the "LA on the Move" Exhibition at Los Angeles Union Station

Developed by Metro Art and ArtCenter College of Design in Collaboration with Data Vandals and Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy, New Exhibition Highlights the Vital Role of Urban Wildlife

PASADENA, CA – ArtCenter College of Design student work is featured in LA on the Move, a new, year-long exhibition currently on view in downtown Los Angeles’ historic Union Station. The project was developed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority's public art program Metro Art, in collaboration with ArtCenterArroyos & Foothills Conservancy and Data Vandals, a New York-based data-activism collective that transforms public data into visual storytelling.

Through dynamic visual displays, the exhibition draws parallels between human mobility and the movement of undomesticated animals through the city, highlighting the viral role urban wildlife plays in a healthy regional ecosystem.

Featuring data from AFC regarding wildlife living in and around the city, designs by Data Vandals, and select student projects from ArtCenter’s Designmatters class, City Animals: Data Visualization for Urban Wildlife Conservation, the exhibition explores how thoughtful urban planning can foster coexistence and create a more sustainable future for all species.

LA on the Move brings attention to the region’s remarkable biodiversity and the role urban species play in maintaining ecological balance. The project spotlights five familiar inhabitants—the coyote, mountain lion, red-tailed hawk, monarch butterfly, and California kingsnake—as they navigate neighborhoods in search of food, shelter, and safety.

LA on the Move was initiated as part of ArtCenter's participation in PST ART: Art & Science Collide, the Getty initiative exploring intersections of creativity and scientific inquiry.
