Diana Thater

A+Graduate+Art+faculty+member+since+2008%2C+artist+Tom+Allen+is+best+known+for+his+intricate+and+richly+chromatic+paintings+that+draw+from+19th-century+Romanticism+as+much+as+they+do+from+contemporary+experience.+Allen+received+his+BFA+from+the+University+of+Southern+California+in+1998+and+his+MFA+from+ArtCenter+in+2001.+He+has+been+featured+in+solo+and+group+exhibitions+internationally+%28Berlin%2C+Cologne%2C+Stockholm%2C+New+York%2C+Los+Angeles%29+and+his+paintings+are+held+in+private+collections%2C+as+well+as+in+the+permanent+collections+of+the+Museum+of+Contemporary+Art%2C+Los+Angeles+and+the+Sweeney+Gallery%2C+University+of+California%2C+Riverside.+In+2012%2C+he+organized+%E2%80%9COccult+Aesthesis%2C%E2%80%9D+a+panel+discussion+at+ArtCenter+exploring+the+intersection+of+contemporary+art+and+esotericism.+In+2016+he+was+interviewed+on+Yale+University+Radio%2C+and+also+in+the+bilingual+French+journal+%22Octopusnotes.%22+He+is+the+art+director+for+%22CLAVIS%E2%80%93Journal+of+Occult+Arts%2C+Letters+and+Experience.%22

Tom Allen
Stan+Kaplan+is+an+alumnus+of+ArtCenter%E2%80%99s+Graduate+Art+program.+His+work+explores+the+conflict+between+painting%E2%80%99s+history+and+the+culture+of+the+contemporary+moment+through+a+targeted+use+of+genre+and+an+interrogation+of+the+issues+surrounding+visual+pleasure+in+art.+Born+in+Chicago%2C+Kaplan+moved+to+New+York+and+studied+early+modern+English+drama+and+literature+and+Western+philosophy+and+critical+theory+at+the+New+School+for+Social+Research+and+Art+history+at+NYU.+At+the+same+time%2C+he+also+worked+closely+with+American+painter+Philip+Pearlstein.+After+relocating+to+Los+Angeles%2C+Kaplan+entered+ArtCenter%E2%80%99s+MFA+program+where+he+worked+with+Mike+Kelley+among+others.+Kaplan+teaches+writing+and+studio+art+in+the+art+departments+at+Otis+College+of+Art+and+Design+and+California+State+University%2C+Los+Angeles.+Also+a+musician%2C+he+has+recorded+and+performed+projects+with+other+visual+artists+whose+work+involves+musical+forms+and+expressions.

Stan Kaplan
An+artist+and+educator+based+in+Los+Angeles%2C+Raymie+Iadevaia+received+a+BFA+in+Painting%2FDrawing+from+the+California+College+of+Arts+and+Crafts+in+San+Francisco+in+2007+and+an+MFA+from+ArtCenter+in+2013.+Iadevaia%E2%80%99s+practice+is+founded+on+an+enmeshed+interplay+between+painterly+and+sculptural+strategies.+His+interests+lie+in+the+nuanced+uses+of+color+as+integral+to+the+development+of+a+visual+field+focused+on+a+dynamic+relay+between+sensations+of+frenetic+movement+within+the+body+and+the+tactile%2C+spatial+nature+of+perception.+Researching+historical+foundations+of+colors+and+their+theoretical+implications%2C+Iadevaia+explores+how+color+repels%2C+congeals%2C+veils%2C+transmits%2C+transmutes+and+conjures+meaning+across+cultural+and+aesthetic+contexts.+Iadevaia%E2%80%99s+work+has+been+exhibited+in+Los+Angeles%2C+New+York%2C+Switzerland%2C+Germany+and+Japan.+Iadevaia+teaches+in+the+School+of+Visual+and+Performing+Arts+at+Chaffey+College+and+online+courses+at+Rocky+Mountain+College+of+Art+%2B+Design.

Raymie Iadevaia
Since+earning+his+MFA+in+2008%2C+Los+Angeles-based+video+artist+and+painter+Matt+Sheridan+has+exhibited+across+five+continents+and+received+numerous+awards%2C+grants+and+fellowships.+His+abstract+%E2%80%9Cpainting-in-motion%E2%80%9D+video+installations+address+contemporary+power+relations+between+handmade+physical+reality+and+the+click-and-drag+mentality+by+exploring+implications+of+movement+between+forms+in+spaces.+Working+in+a+mode+of+constructivist+expressionism%2C+his+output+visualizes+states+of+mind%2C+deriving+meaning+from+actions+through+architecture%2C+across+canvas+and+into+sculptures+and+monitor+works.+Sheridan+has+taught+at+the+School+of+Visual+Arts%2C+Pratt+Institute+and+at+New+York+University+in+both+New+York+and+Singapore.+Matt+Sheridan%E2%80%99s+pieces+are+in+private+collections+in+New+York%2C+Miami%2C+Los+Angeles+and+Brisbane%2C+Australia.

Artist+Jill+Spector%E2%80%99s+work+suggests+mimicry+and+roles+to+be+played%2C+placing+the+viewer+into+relationships+between+bodies+and+objects.+Spector%E2%80%99s+sculptures+and+collages+were+part+of+%E2%80%9CMade+in+L.A.+2012%E2%80%9D+at+the+Hammer+Museum.+Her+work+has+been+included+in+the+exhibitions+%E2%80%9CBiomorphic+Forms+In+Sculpture%E2%80%9D+at+the+Kunsthaus+Graz+in+Austria+and+%E2%80%9CDrawling%2C+Stretching+and+Fainting+in+Coils%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D+at+the+Pinakothek+der+Moderne+and+Nationaltheater+in+Munich%2C+Germany.+Spector%E2%80%99s+photography+has+been+featured+in+publications%2C+including+%E2%80%9CValeria+Napoleone%E2%80%99s+Catalog+of+Exquisite+Recipes.%E2%80%9D+Following+these+projects%2C+Spector+created+%E2%80%9CThe+Editor%E2%80%99s+President%3A+Models+and+Mock-Ups+for+Elaine+May%2C%E2%80%9D+%E2%80%9CNora+Kaye%2C%E2%80%9D+%E2%80%9Cand+Eileen+Gray%2C%E2%80%9D+an+installation+at+JOAN+in+Los+Angeles.+In+2013%2C+Spector+became+an+Orange+County+Contemporary+Collectors+Fellowship+Artist.+

Jill Spector
Dawson+Weber+received+his+Bachelor+of+Music+from+the+University+of+Illinois+and+his+MFA+from+the+Graduate+Art+program+at+ArtCenter.+His+work+draws+on+models+found+in+conceptual+art%2C+gestural+abstraction+and+graphic+design+to+explore+relationships+between+image+and+text+and+how+color+generates+meaning.+In+2007%2C+Dawson+created+%E2%80%9CWell%21+I%27ve+often+seen+a+cat+without+a+grin%2C+but+a+grin+without+a+cat%21+It%27s+the+most+curious+thing+I+ever+saw%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D+for+the+group+exhibition+%E2%80%9C%E2%80%A6drawling%2C+stretching%2C+and+fainting+in+coils%E2%80%A6%E2%80%9D+at+the+Bavarian+Opera+House+and+Pinakothek+der+Moderne+in+Munich%2C+Germany.+Since+2006%2C+Dawson+has+contributed+regularly+to+%E2%80%9CRadio+Dani%C3%A8le%2C%E2%80%9D+a+free-form+radio-based+project+organized+by+Christopher+Williams+and+John+Kelsey%3B+his+participation+included+a+live+on-air+performance+on+WFMU+during+%E2%80%9CPERFORMA+07%E2%80%9D+in+New+York.+Most+recently%2C+Dawson+launched+%E2%80%9CPostcard+from+Algiers%2C%E2%80%9D+a+mail-based+project+consisting+of+artist-created+postcards+depicting+places+throughout+Africa.

Los+Angeles-based+Gabrielle+Jennings+is+a+multimedia+artist+and+faculty+member+in+the+Graduate+Art+program+at+ArtCenter.+Jennings+recently+edited+%22Abstract+Video%3A+The+Moving+Image+in+Contemporary+Art%22+%28University+of+California+Press%29+a+collection+of+essays+on+abstraction+in+the+moving+image+arts.+Jennings%27+work+mines+memory+and+melancholy+and+includes+video%2C+drawing+and+painting.+She+has+been+artist+in+residence+at+Kunstlerhaus+Bethanien+%28Berlin%29+and+200+Gertrude+Street+Artist+Spaces+%28Melbourne%29+and+honored+with+support+from+the+Art+Matters+Fellowship%2C+Philip+Morris+Kunstforderung+and+the+Samsung+Faculty+Enrichment+Grant.+Harold+Fricke%2C+Jeremy+Gilbert-Rolfe%2C+Cay+Sophie+Rabinowitz%2C+and+Jan+Tumlir%2C+among+others%2C+have+written+about+her+work.+Jennings+received+a+BFA+from+the+University+of+California%2C+San+Diego%2C+where+she+studied+with+Eleanor+Antin+and+Allan+Kaprow%3B+and+an+MFA+from+ArtCenter%2C+where+she+studied+with+Jeremy+Gilbert-Rolfe%2C+Patti+Podesta%2C+Mike+Kelley%2C+Stephen+Prina%2C+Lita+Albuquerque+and+Sabina+Ott.
