MFA 05 Graduate Art

Dawson Weber received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois and his MFA from the Graduate Art program at ArtCenter. His work draws on models found in conceptual art, gestural abstraction and graphic design to explore relationships between image and text and how color generates meaning. In 2007, Dawson created “Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin, but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw…” for the group exhibition “…drawling, stretching, and fainting in coils…” at the Bavarian Opera House and Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, Germany. Since 2006, Dawson has contributed regularly to “Radio Danièle,” a free-form radio-based project organized by Christopher Williams and John Kelsey; his participation included a live on-air performance on WFMU during “PERFORMA 07” in New York. Most recently, Dawson launched “Postcard from Algiers,” a mail-based project consisting of artist-created postcards depicting places throughout Africa.
