The Norman Schureman Memorial Endowed Scholarship honors the life and legacy of Norm Schureman (BS 1988 Product Design)—a beloved ArtCenter alumnus, faculty member, mentor and friend whose passion for design education shaped generations of students.
Established in 2010 by family, friends, and colleagues this scholarship supports undergraduate students in ArtCenter’s Product Design program who embody Norm’s spirit of curiosity, playfulness, and relentless creativity. Indeed for more than 20 years, Norm inspired hundreds of ArtCenter students through his teaching that combined humor with rigor, nurturing a love of craft and experimentation that continues to define the department today.
“Norm made students feel that they could change the world,” reflects ArtCenter President Karen Hofmann, a longtime colleague and friend. “This scholarship ensures that his legacy continues through the next generation of designers.”
Norm’s deep connection to ArtCenter began early, following in the footsteps of his father, Bob Schureman, who was also a beloved product design faculty member. Together, both Norm and his father influenced countless young designers with their generosity, skill, and belief in the transformative power of education.
Your gift to the Norman Schureman Memorial Endowed Scholarship helps ensure that future generations of Product Design students can follow in the footsteps of both Norm and Bob Schureman—curious, passionate, and generous designers who inspired others to see the world differently.
I am truly thankful for the Norman Schureman Memorial Endowed Scholarship . Coming from a low-income family, this support makes a huge difference. It’s allowed me to focus on sustainability in design, build great industry connections and move closer to completing my degree.
