After graduating from the ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles, Steve began his career as an Art Director at Petersen Publishing.

In 1970, he moved to advertising, first as an Art Director and then as a Creative Director. Clients included Armor All, Hobie Catamarans, Husquvarna Motorcycles, Nova Stylings and John Cassavetes’ film “A Woman Under the Influence.”

Steve Hitter & Associates his advertising/design firm started in 1976. Clients included the Los Angeles Rams, Auto Expo, Carroll Shelby’s Texas Chili and numerous jewelry and fashion clients including Chatham Created Gems, Cole of California, Ebel and Gucci Timepieces, Nancy B & Company, OroAmerica, Pepi Fine Jewelry and the Gucci, Lanvin, Suzanna and Theodore boutiques on Rodeo Drive.

During the early 80’s Steve acquired the US Pantera parts and distribution company Panteramerica. In 1983 he conceived and with Carroll Shelby, designed and built the AC Shelby Chrysler Sidewinder prototype.

In 1985, Hitter joined Gucci Timepieces as Advertising Director and was appointed Vice President and Chief Creative Officer in 1988. Three years later, Steve and his family moved to Europe when he became President of Gucci Timepieces in Switzerland.

In 2001, Steve became the managing partner of the Hitter Family Partnership as well as CEO of the Hitter Family Foundation.

Hitter served as Chairman the Board of Governors at Cedars Sinai Medical Center 2012-2013 and is currently on the Leadership Cabinet. He was President and member of the of American board of Sheba Medical Center in Israel. Steve is also on the board of the Los Angeles Center of Photography. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of ArtCenter College of Design and currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer.
