This installation references the biblical prophecy of the apocalypse, symbolized by riders on horseback which represent: 1. Conquest, 2. Slaughter, 3. Famine and 4. Death. Sane people must call attention to the rise of despots, dictators, the insanely greedy and those who would destroy civil society for self-interest. Civilization is fragile. We have seen countless nations, empires and civilizations flourish and vanish into oblivion. "The Four Horsemen" addresses the current state of humanity, a finite world possibly moving towards human extinction. Muñoz's highly composed paintings reflect a careful analysis of site-specific forms, a reconfiguration of visual elements, and a re-composition within the traditions of abstract painting.
