ArtCenter College of Design Announces Comprehensive Search for Faculty in the Fields of Art, Design, Humanities and Social Impact

ArtCenter Commits to Bringing New Diverse Perspectives to Students Across Campus

Application Deadline Extended to February 25, 2022

ArtCenter College of Design has announced a comprehensive search to hire six new faculty to teach in one of multiple disciplines across the College. This cluster hire is part of a strategic initiative to bring new diverse perspectives to students across campus. In doing so, the College hopes to achieve the following:

  • Expand unique perspectives available in the classroom,
  • Foster institutional expertise about the intersections between art and design practices and legacies of racism and colonialism, and
  • Advance more just and equitable futures both within and beyond the ArtCenter community.

Academic disciplines included in ArtCenter’s search (with links to specific job descriptions) include:

  • Communication – Reflecting excellence in design and communication across multiple media strategies through typography, form and meaning
  • Designmatters – ArtCenter's award-winning Social Innovation department
  • Fine Art/Illustration – Painting and drawing in both representational as well as abstract modes
  • Graduate Education – Enriching and expanding the research, theory and creative practices of graduate-level students across multiple departments
  • Humanities and Sciences – Emphasizing History across all fields, with a particular interest in global art, design and/or media histories
  • Industrial Design – Form-giving experience (Product, Transportation and/or Spatial Experience Design), design research and design based on cultural issues

Preference will be given to candidates whose work engages global, anti-racist and decolonizing frameworks in relation to the fields of art, design, and/or media. Ideal candidates will challenge the creative fields’ traditional histories, practices, and audiences, and expand the communities with which ArtCenter engages.

In the last year, ArtCenter has hired, promoted or given full-time status to two dozen instructors, assistant and associate professors to diversify its faculty. The College also recently welcomed two new AICAD Fellows as part of a Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship offered by the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design (AICAD). Additionally, departments across the College continue to invite internationally renowned artists, designers and thought leaders into the classroom to serve as guest speakers, facilitate workshops and critique student portfolios.
