Description

Art Center College of Design invites applications for the position of Chair of the Entertainment Design Department. The Chair is responsible for all aspects of the direction and management of the department, which comprises over 25 faculty members who teach more than 25 classes each term. The primary purpose of Entertainment Design is to prepare students for careers in video games, feature films, animated films and related fields such as theme park design and visual effects design. The position comes with administrative support and faculty directors in focused curricular areas.

Essential Functions

  • The Entertainment Design Chair’s job is to oversee the Department’s pedagogy in foundation and technical skills, design research and history, and the humanities.  The curriculum’s goal is to provide Art Center students with a first-rate education required for them to become future entertainment industry leaders and top creative talent. 
  • The Chair must recognize the essential need for the Department to actively innovate, stay nimble, and work closely with other Art Center Departments and with industry in order for the Entertainment Design program to remain an educational leader within its area of specialty.
  • The Entertainment Design Chair’s responsibilities also include significant outreach functions, with a view to developing strong bonds with other academic, art, and especially entertainment industry companies.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have an accomplished background in administration and teaching, with a record of achievement in the entertainment field, which may include a filmography, game projects, and publishing or research.
  • The candidate should have a broad knowledge of contemporary industrial illustration and design practices, media and related skills required for Entertainment Design.
  • A candidate should possess good interpersonal, management and communication skills.
