Title: Director of Admissions Outreach & Communications

Art Center College of Design is a private, non-profit college noted for its intensive, specialized programs in 11 undergraduate and 6 graduate art and design disciplines.  Students apply directly to one major and must present portfolios and credentials clearly directed to that major.  The College is in session all year round. Art Center is known for its focus on professional career preparation as well as educational emphasis on social initiatives and research. The Admissions Office is charged with enrollment of exceptionally gifted students who demonstrate the academic and visual talent to thrive at Art Center and who come from diverse backgrounds. Enrollment is approximately 1650 undergraduate and 150 graduate students. 



The Director of Admissions Outreach & Communications will focus on outward communications to prospective visual art and design students and applicants as well as direct recruitment of students through presentations to students and teachers. Approximately half of the Director’s time will be devoted to out-of-office visits and presentations to schools and organizations; the other half will be implementation of outgoing recruitment messaging and campaigns. Art Center seeks a creative focus on recruiting diverse students from a variety of geographic, educational, and socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. The Director will be assigned domestic and international territories in which to develop relationships with teachers and students through visits to high schools and colleges. Most visits will take place during the Fall and Spring. Travel will be required for these presentations, and a reliable vehicle is required for travel to local destinations.



  • Create strategic communications with current prospective students while helping to build new sources of prospective students through research — these communications will focus on email messaging and internet presence for targeted majors and populations of students, and include recruitment appeals to undergraduate and graduate level visual arts and design students
  • Work collaboratively with the Managing Director of Admissions, Sr. VP of Admissions, Department Chairs, Marketing staff, and Director of Recruitment to establish priorities and messaging
  • Create outgoing content, both written and visual, for email communications to prospects including news of the programs, projects, faculty and alumni — this will also include ongoing invitations to admissions events, such as on-line events, Open Houses, Portfolio Days and work within social media and other internet platforms to drive interest to the events
  • Oversee the Admissions profile on Facebook
  • Create follow-up campaigns and reminders for admissions deadlines that motivate students to apply to the College; work collaboratively on individual recruitment campaigns for the College's seventeen departments


  • Candidates should have a minimum of 3–5 years of experience in art college admissions and recruitment or related higher education work, advertising, marketing, writing, or other related visual discipline
  • Minimum of a BA or BFA in a related field such as advertising or design is required
  • Preference is given to prior admissions and recruitment experience and/or strategic work with communications to creative visual arts audiences
  • Strong writing and copy ability along with visual sophistication required
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills necessary
  • Prior experience utilizing social media and internet communications for educational outreach or marketing
  • Must have deep understanding of college age students and platforms for effective communications with those groups
  • Must have valid driver's license and proof of insurance; use of personal vehicle required for local travel
