Each term Art Center’s graphic design department brings together three L.A.-based design professionals to discuss a particular topic.

Our presenters--Yolanda Santosa, Chris Dooley and Tatiana Redin Wyden--are each Art Center alumni running design studios that are from 2-5 years old. They represent motion design, packaging, branding and interactive work.

Questions that will be addressed:

  • What important things did these successful designers learn from committing to a “real” business?
  • What expectations/surprises were realized?
  • How did you structure your business? Partnerships? Collaborations?
  • How do they balance a personal life and the demands of a growing business?
  • What do they look for when hiring a young designer to work in their company?

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 626.396.2351.

Hear more about a grant program awarding $5k–$50k for your ideas that support social and environmental causes.

Since 1999, Sappi’s Ideas that Matter program has awarded more than $9 million worldwide in grants to designers to help create and implement communications projects that serve the charitable activities they care about most.

Individual designers, design firms, agencies, in-house corporate design departments, design instructors, individual design students and design student groups can apply for an Ideas that Matter grant. Grant awards range from $5,000 to $50,000 per project and may be used to cover implementation and out-of-pocket costs.

This evening, Art Center alumnus Dan McNulty of MC Brand Studios will talk about his 2005 Ideas that Matter grant award for the Autism Research Institute.

Sappi wants to encourage ideas that have the potential to change our lives, our communities and our world. This initiative helps designers make a difference by providing financial support to implement their ideas that matter. If you have a cause you would like to support, Sappi invites you to make your idea a reality.
