Biography

Arden Stern is a design historian whose scholarship focuses on American graphic design and visual culture. Dr. Stern is currently an Assistant Professor of Humanities & Sciences at ArtCenter College of Design and has also served as Visiting Faculty in the Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University. She received her doctorate in Visual Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and her bachelor’s degree in Art-Semiotics from Brown University. Dr. Stern has been the recipient of research fellowships from the Winterthur Library and the American Antiquarian Society, as well as ArtCenter's Samsung-endowed Faculty Enrichment Grant and the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography Educator Grant. She has contributed to various scholarly and journalistic publications, including the Design & Culture journal, Design Issues, and Print magazine.
