Arden Stern is a design historian whose scholarship focuses on graphic design and visual culture. Her research explores vernacular design practices across multiple platforms in the context of urban development and globalization. She received her doctorate in Visual Studies from the University of California at Irvine in 2012, and her bachelor's degree in Art-Semiotics from Brown University. She is the recipient of grants including ArtCenter's Samsung-endowed Faculty Enrichment Grant, UC Irvine's Humanities Center Research Grant, and research fellowships from the Winterthur Library and the American Antiquarian Society. She has published in the Design & Culture journal, Print magazine, and other scholarly and journalistic publications.
