Biography

Concept Designer Samuel Michlap has spent the last 27 years working in the animation, themed entertainment and live-action industries. Some of his clients include The Walt Disney Studios, DreamWorks, Disney’s Imagineering, Sony Pictures, Reelfx, Warner Brothers, Marvel Studios, Universal, EA Games.

In 2014 Sam teamed up with Director Kathryn Bigelow to produce a short animated PSA concerning the Ivory Trade, titled Last Days of Ivory. Please visit the dedicated site at http://www.lastdaysofivory.com, to get involved in helping end the Ivory Trade.

Some of his credits include Disney’s classic animated feature Lion King, Prince of Egypt, Rise of the Guardian’s, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2, Star Trek Discovery, The Batman,Hotel Artemis, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Watchman HBO Series, Spiderman Homecoming, Dr. Strange and the film adaptation of the classic novel Call of the Wild.

Giving back as a mentor, Sam has been an instructor at ArtCenter since 2000, as well as several other local LA schools. Sam travels throughout the country lecturing at art schools about how to prepare and maintain a career in the film industry through networking, positive contributions and hard work.

In addition to his film work, Sam has enjoyed a successful Fine Art career and has exhibited his work in galleries throughout the country. His work has been described as “theatrical and cinematic”.

In his spare time, Sam enjoys Plein air painting, woodworking, and spending time with his family.
