Dr. Lorne M. Buchman began his tenure as the fifth President of Art Center College of Design in October 2009. Under Dr. Buchmanís leadership, the College has made significant strides in areas of campus expansion, endowment growth and increased scholarships and financial aid for students. He is currently focused on plans for the construction of new academic facilities, on-campus student housing and the launching of Art Centerís capital campaign.

Prior to Art Center, Dr. Buchman served as President of Saybrook University in San Francisco. He also previously served as Provost and then President of California College of the Arts (CCA). A trained theatre director and scholar, Dr. Buchman has held a number of faculty and administrative positions at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of a book on filmic adaptations of Shakespeareís plays.

In addition to his work in higher education, Dr. Buchman is actively involved in community service. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees at the Brentwood School, University of Haifa and The Jewish Community Foundation, Los Angeles. He has also served on the Boards of over a dozen non-profit organizations in the past.

Dr. Buchman earned his PhD from Stanford University and received a B.A. from the University of Toronto. He is married to Rochelle Shapell, an attorney and professor of law. They have four children.
