Title: Lab Technician, 3D Lab -- part-time, on-call

Description

Art Center’s 3D Prototyping shops feature the latest in rapid prototyping technologies including various types of 3D printers, mills and routers. This is a very extensive, capable and forward thinking lab, and 3D lab staff must be willing to learn and grow as this department advances. Lab Technicians function as both instructor and technician to assist students in acquiring expert skills with these technologies to design art projects, and must be able to demonstrate proper use of equipment which includes: Zcorp printers, Dimension FDM printers, and Laser Cutting Machines. Some training is available. This is an on-call, part-time position; hours will vary between 10–20 hours per week and may include weekends and evenings.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the working state of all machines assigned
  • Perform daily machine clean-up and maintenance
  • Lab techs must maintain hardware and all software specific to each machine assigned to them
  • Assist students with projects specific to assigned area

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in CAD/CAM programs, such as: Adobe Illustrator, Solidworks, Rhino
  • Understanding of or background in prototyping
  • Understanding file conversion across various 3D formats
  • Experience in software installation, configuration, troubleshooting and problem-solving (Windows operating systems)
  • General understanding of design and manufacturing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the patience and understanding required to communicate effectively with students on a daily basis
  • Ability to work with 3D files
  • Self-starter with good multi-tasking skills; highly organized, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be available to work weeknights and some weekends
