Biography

Richard Pearce is a director and cinematographer whose credits include "Country" for which Jessica Lange received an Academy Award nomination; "No Mercy" starring Richard Gere and Kim Bassinger; "The Long Walk Home" starring Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek; "Leap of Faith" with Steve Martin, Deborah Winger and Liam Neeson; and "A Family Thing" with Robert Duvall and James Earl Jones. His directorial debut, "Heartland" starring Rip Torn, won the Golden Bear at the 1980 Berlin Film Festival. Among his cinematography credits are four Academy Award winning documentaries: "Woodstock," "Marjoe," "Interviews with My Lai Veterans" and "Hearts and Minds" and a recent Emmy Award winner: "Food Inc." A long time member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Pearce has served on its board of governors representing the documentary branch and has been teaching at Art Center since 2008.
