![]() ![]() March 5 May 9, 2010 The public is invited to an Opening reception, Thursday, March 4, 7 to 9pm Art Center's Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery has teamed with DreamWorks Animation to produce DreamWorlds, a behind-the-scenes look at the artistry and imagination of animated filmmaking. Over one-hundred objects in the exhibition include paintings, digital creations, posters, clay character models, film excerpts, an animation studio re-creation, and other byproducts of the complex animated filmmaking process that were drawn from popular DreamWorks projects such as Antz, Bee Movie, Madagascar, Monsters vs. Aliens, Shark Tale, Shrek and many others including the soon-to-be-released How To Train Your Dragon (debuting March 26, 2010). A number of artists included in the exhibition are Art Center alumni who entered the entertainment field and were lured to the creative DreamWorks environment. Illustration Department Chair Ann Field says "animated film takes us on a mental journey into alternative realities imagined, far-fetched, exaggerated, and stylized. The work is no less than magic, and falls from the pen and brush of talented artists, illustrators and designersÉ" The exhibition will open with a public panel discussion and reception on Thursday, March 4. The panel in Art Center's Ahmanson Auditorium will begin at 7pm and be followed by a reception with refreshments in the gallery at 8pm. Panelists include: Kathy Altierri, DreamWorks Production Designer for How to Train Your Dragon (release date March 26, 2010), and an Art Center alum. DreamWorlds has been made possible through the support of DreamWorks Animation, the Williamson Gallery Patrons, and the Pasadena Art Alliance. Art Center wishes to extend a special thanks to all DreamWorks staff who have contributed to the exhibition's development, in particular Angela Lepito, Sam Michlap, Brian Smith, and Beverly Herman without whose expertise, patience, and commitment this project would never have been realized. |
