Hollywood - Southern California is a world-class culture-generating
region for advanced artistic production. Collectively, the
region's graduate art programs that award Masters in Fine
Arts (M.F.A.) degrees, with their renowned faculty, are internationally
recognized as the place to watch for the emergence of exciting,
culturally significant, new talent in the art world.
Following the success of the past two student-organized Supersonic
exhibitions of Southern California M.F.A. work, nine graduate
fine arts programs are joining together again to present the
Supersonic show. The first Supersonic was held at the Art
Center College of Design in Pasadena. Supersonic 2005 was
held at the L.A. Design Center in South Los Angeles. This
year's Supersonic will be hosted by the Los Angeles Municipal
Art Gallery in Barnsdall Park, site of the historic Hollyhock
House in Hollywood, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Supersonic 2006 is entirely organized by students from the
nine participating Southern California M.F.A. programs and
presents works of intellectual and artistic rigor by over
100 graduate students in one location. This exhibition is
a remarkable opportunity for recent M.F.A. graduates to exhibit
work collectively and share in dialogue with the larger Southern
California community. The work presented in Supersonic represents
a wide range of cutting-edge artistic practices.
The Participating M.F.A. programs are:
Art Center College of Design
California Institute of the Arts
Claremont Graduate University
Otis College of Art & Design
University of California, Santa Barbara
University of California, Irvine
University of California, Los Angeles
University of California, San Diego
University of Southern California
