According to Bill Reinert, solving our transportation infrastructure problems is critical if we are to remove the obstacles that are keeping hydrogen fuel cell vehicles off our streets. These extremely fuel-efficient vehicles are ready to hit the market, Reinert says, “but there’s no place to fuel them.” Toyota’s National Manager for Advanced Technology, Reinert was part of the team that created the Prius. He is in charge of the various research, development and marketing activities of Toyota’s alternative-fueled vehicles and emerging technologies. Reinert helped launch the first hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicles in commercial operation in the United States, an effort that required careful collaboration with all levels of federal, state and local officials. He also helped develop the I-4 program in response to the Department of Energy’s Hydrogen Validation Program RFP.
