Distributed World Power (DWP) aims to become the leader in affordable energy generation products designed specifically for off-grid use in emerging markets. The company has deep expertise in product development across many modern technologies, including solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind and human powered products, and plans to release its first product in early 2009. Co-founder and vice president of business development John Howard brings international experience to DWP in the private, public and social sectors. Previously, Howard helped establish a water purification startup, a rural connectivity nonprofit, and worked at McKinsey & Company on international development, microfinance and high tech strategy in the U.S., EU, Middle East and Asia. He also worked as a systems engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a robotics startup. Howard studied mechanical engineering and economics at Caltech and Cambridge.
