Nik Hafermaas joined Art Center College of Design in 2004 as Chair of the Graphic Design Department, where he has created a new curriculum which includes diverse transdisciplinary study abroad studios in a variety of major international cities, including Berlin, Copenhagen and Tokyo. Prior to joining Art Center, Hafermaas was professor of environmental design and temporary architecture at the University of the Arts in Bremen, Germany. He also curated the Berlin-based group, Young Creative Industries, where his clients included the Bertelsmann Media Group, World Expo 2000, Audi, Deutsche Telecom AG, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Zurich Financial Services. Hafermaas has received numerous awards including the IF Design Award, the German Design Club Award and the Art Directors Club Design Award. He was named Acting Chief Academic Officer in 2008.
