Paul GipePaul Gipe

Pioneer in wind energy; scientist, engineer, writer and lecturer

The technology for solar and wind power has existed for two decades, Paul Gipe says, but government policies have continuously prevented it from going forward. “That’s why a few years ago I decided to stop whining about poor renewable policies here in North America, and I chose to do something about it,” he says. A pioneer in the field of wind energy, Gipe’s experience with wind technology runs the gamut from measuring wind resources to installing residential wind turbines. Best known for his advocacy of wind energy and for his articles and books on the topic, Gipe has sought to popularize the use of wind energy worldwide through his writing and public speaking. He has authored several books on the topic, and was instrumental in the successful campaign for Ontario’s 2006 implementation of Advanced Renewable Tariffs to promote distributed renewable energy supply.
