Creative technologist and educator, Salvador Orara has worked on a wide range of projects from interactive installations, mobile apps, rich internet applications, and websites, to brand design, marketing campaigns, and printed matter. Over the last 10 years he has worked with clients such as: Art Center College of Design, J. Walter Thompson, Made In Space, Nokia, Pentagram, Potion Design, Studio Museum in Harlem, UCLA Architecture & Urban Design, and Yu+Co. He holds awards with AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers, AIGA 365, and Art Directors Club. His work has been featured in publications such as Archinect, Beautiful Decay, Creative Applications Network, The New York Times, and Critical Information SVA. Salvador received his BFA in Graphic Design from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia; and a MFA in Media Design from Art Center College of Design.
Salvador is currently Principal and Chief Creative Technologist at The Rare Studio; an independent Los Angeles-Portland creative technology studio. Rare partners with early-stage and established companies providing them with creative technology services while educating the designers performing them. Rare seeks to become an educational platform which thrives off the practice and business of design.
Salvador represents Interaction Design on the Art Center Faculty Council and is Faculty Representative on the Student Academic Policy Committee. In addition to teaching User Centered Design and Visual Design in the Interaction Design Department; Salvador also teaches Natural Sciences in the Humanities and Sciences Department.
