Jens Schmidt
The Secret Garden of Mutabor, 1998

Jens Schmidt (Yenz) lives in Milan, Italy, where he is a graphic designer, illustrator, and web designer. The Secret Garden received first prize at the European Adobe-Design-Contest, and has been featured in "Mac Art and Design", "Adobe Magazine", and "Linea Grafica."

Based on the structure of an adventure game, Secret Garden is a metaphor for the environment of Earth, where the planet's population can effect change to either the good or detriment of their habitat. Like the squirrel Scoiattolo in Secret Garden, whose hot tears run into the river and make it melt, humans on Earth can either weep over their destruction of its ecology or they can prevent it through cunning and will. Using lush and eccentric images with enigmatic audio, the mythical Secret Garden symbolizes a real-world struggle.
