Kristin Lucas
Between a Rock and a Hard Drive, 1998
Kristin Lucas is a Brooklyn-based artist working with video, installation,
performance, and the World Wide Web. Her work addresses the complexity of society's relationship to automation and the psychological effects of rapid spread technology. It has been inclded in shows at The Museum of Modern Art, the 1997 Whitney Biennial, and OK Center for Contemporary Art in Linz, Austria.
Between a Rock and a Hard Drive is a kind-of "waiting-room" for the internet. An ironic critique of the world's fastest medium and the long idle wait-times it requires, the piece also addresses the tolerance level that net users have developed in anticipation of being "rewarded" with information.
