Originally from Winterhaven, FL, Sarah Brambir Cromarty graduated in 2005 summa cum laude from Art Center College of Design, located in Pasadena, CA, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Throughout her academic career, Ms. Cromarty exhibited her work in various galleries in and around Los Angeles, including the Paul Kopeikin Gallery, Compact Space and Mimi Gallery. Moving forward, she would like to pursue a master’s degree in a few years and, ultimately, show her work internationally as well as teach. Currently, Ms. Cromarty lives in Los Angeles.
The 19th-century German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich is a strong influence on Ms. Cromarty’s work, consisting mostly of landscape paintings filled with contrasting messages that reflect the society we live in. In visiting Provence, France, she was captivated by its timeless beauty. Yet, she is also saddened by her vision of the dark future that is before us, as evidenced by the environmental destruction and the inhumanity of our times. Her psychologically charged paintings reflect these dualities and are meant to strike people in ways that are strange as well as meaningful. Ms. Cromarty’s work is also a tribute to the other artists that continue to inspire her, including Peter Doig, Michael Raedecker and Dexter Dalwood.
"My time in Provence was fun and inspiring. My favorite sites were the Pont Du Gard, the Port of Marseilles, and some old theatre ruins in Arles. I also enjoyed many of the fountains that were scattered throughout our destinations. I also found the that the french culture was rich and diverse, and I felt welcome everywhere I went."
