This version of the Gold Rush set a 1000 meter record of 53.43 mph in 1991 at Villeur Baunne, France, piloted by "Fast" Freddie Markham. It features a Kevlar arimid shell that has a natural gold color. This record machine is similar to the earlier Gold Rush that first broke the 65 mph speed barrier in 1986, and which is now housed in the Smithsonian Institution. For nearly 20 years Gardner Martin's Easy Racer Team has been designing and building racing recumbents. Fred Markham, in an early version of the Gold Rush, was the first to break 50mph in 1980 at the old Ontario Motor Speedway.

The Tour Easy, seen elsewhere in this exhibition, is also designed by Gardner Martin and is similar to the frame inside the shell of the Le Tour.
