The Flying Fish, designed by Alec Brooks and Allan Abbott, has reached a 100 meter speed of 20.06 mph/17.43 knots. It has been profiled in Scientific American, and Popular Science magazines.

It features a catamaran type flotation system, allowing for a light, compact craft. The drive chain is twisted to eliminate a gear box, and uses a 1/4 inch chain. The rider pedals in a standard cycling position, which allows for the use of standard equipment during training.

The 2000 meter speed for this vehicle is faster than the 2000 meter time for an 8-man rowing shell at the same site (The 1933 Olympic site in Long Beach), and nearly as fast as the current world record for an 8-man shell.
