Al Kallis: Presented by LMU’s Department of Art and Art History KaleidoLA Speaker Series

Art Center alum Al Kallis’s graphic design career includes collaborations with the legendary Saul Bass to create and develop artwork promoting a number of famous and classic films. Al also produced posters that were a great deal more accomplished than the Roger Corman sci-fi and horror movies they advertised: “If we could put sprocket holes on Al Kallis' art we'd have better films.” Al has also worked with Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, American International Pictures, and Capitol Records as an illustrator and art director.

In a very rare and exclusive public appearance at LMU, Al will discuss his experiences with Bass on Judy Garland’s A Star is Born, Dorothy Dandridge’s Carmen Jones, Burt Lancaster’s The Rose Tattoo, and several other films with stars such as Henry Fonda, Bette Davis, and Olivia de Havilland. Al will also share stories about working on Corman’s 1950s schlock flicks about invading saucer men, attacking crab monsters, and even a she-monster and a voodoo woman.
