Teams from Honda, Mattel Hot Wheels and Axial Racing compete with students from U.S. and China in 11th annual Formula E (E for elastic) race at ArtCenter College of Design

International rubber band-powered racecar competition showcases design ingenuity, triumph over failure plus other skills crucial to success in global creative economy

The annual Formula E race ritual provides corporate and student teams with valuable experience in product development, engineering, team building and fabrication while pushing their ability to find solutions under pressure, recover from failure and ultimately win.

VISUALS & MEDIA OPS:

  • Waving checkered flag, the thrill of victory and agony of defeat as cars speed around the Sinclair Hill Climb, Ashtray Drag Race and Figure 8 race courses.
  • Imaginative race team brands presented with bold visuals, tents, signage, etc.
  • Champaign soaked awards ceremony.
  • Interview opportunities with judges, corporate teams, ArtCenter officials and other faculty and students from Pasadena City College (PCC), Beijing University of Technology and Beijing Business and Technology University

JUDGES:

Judges represent companies such as Honda R&D, Disney, Mattel Hot Wheels, Axial Racing, Walt Disney Imagineering R&D, Gensler Associates, Boston Consulting Group Digital Ventures, Hyundai, Make in L.A., SpaceX, West Monroe Partners, BMW Group Designworks USA, LEGO Concept Lab, Tesla Motors, Fisker Automotive, Calty, Nissan and others. An official list of judges will be available on race day.

LOCAL CHARITIES BENEFIT FROM RACE DAY:

The winning student teams will share prize money, up to $2,500, with local nonprofit organizations including the South Pasadena Senior Center; Side Street Projects, a mobile youth education program; and artWORKS, a provider of classes for teens interested in creative self-expression.
