Open Letter to International Students from ArtCenter President and Provost

Dear International Students,

In addition to the information sent to you from International Student Services in the CSE, we wanted to offer you our voice of support on behalf of the entire ArtCenter community. We were shocked by the recent guidance announced by the United States government regarding international student visas, as were many people at ArtCenter who care about you. Throughout the history of this College, our international student body has been a treasured part of our community and continues to enhance everything we do. We are grateful that you are part of this great College, and we deeply value each and every one of you.

We want you to know that we are working diligently to do whatever we can as an institution to make it possible for you to maintain your international student status, with options to continue your ArtCenter education in the Fall, from wherever you may be. Our plans to be a hybrid learning institution this Fall, with hundreds of courses that will have an in-person component included, will make it possible (should you enroll in any of them) for you to meet the requirements necessary for maintaining your proper status as an international student in the United States. Department chairs and faculty are also developing specific solutions for international students to participate in some form of on-campus engagement to address these guidance.

Please continue to follow the guidance of the international student advisors in the CSE: join them in their virtual drop-in office hours, or contact them directly at international@artcenter.edu

We look forward to seeing you with great excitement this coming Fall term.

With warmest wishes,
Lorne M. Buchman, President
Karen Hofmann, Provost
