Art Center Alumni Hugh Kretschmer and Tracy Wong have contributed their skills and talents to Art Center at Night’s advertising campaigns. Kretschmer and Wong are both examplars of Art Center’s commitment  to promote life-long learning and the creative pursuit of excellence.

Hugh Kretschmer

After graduating from Art Center College of Design in 1984,  Hugh Kretschmer worked in commercial reportage,  traveled to Asia to pursue photojournalism, and then returned to the U.S. and began his career as a commercial artist, shooting photos for wide varieties of companies and magazines. His tremendous success as a high-end photographer lead to work with numerous travel and lifestyle publications. He has also worker forSpindle Top Records, Weiland Furniture and many others companies.

Hugh’s passion for photography stems from his belief that every day is a new challenge. “It’s difficult to constantly face new competitors for commercial work and daunting to keep up with the new technology I need to embrace,’ he said. “My word for myself lately is ‘evolve’.  I was fortunate enough to learn early in my career that sticking to one particular style or look was a slow death”

After many successful exhibitions across the country,  Kretschmer currently is refocusing his career.  “I’m redirecting my efforts towards doing more advertising work. I don’t think it is a far stretch to say I am going through a third transition in my career right now.”
