Title: Payroll Administrator

Department - Accounting

Type - Full-time staff

Description

This position is responsible for accurately processing bi-weekly payroll for approximately 90 full-time faculty and 300 part-time faculty in compliance with federal and state regulations and the College’s systems.

Essential Functions

  • Process salary payments for full-time faculty and part-time faculty
  • Assist  the provost and chairs in providing information to prepare full-time annual contracts
  • Assist the chairs and directors in calculating part-time faculty load  
  • Ensure that part-time faculty hours and full-time faculty salaries are entered into the system each term and each pay period
  • Calculate wages, full and partial overloads, course releases, stipends and one-time payments; make corrections and adjustments as needed
  • Comply with federal and state agencies’ instructions in processing garnishments
  • Ensure that payroll taxes are accurate and disbursed timely to the proper federal and state agencies
  • Make all necessary adjustments for year-end closing
  • Serve as a first point of contact for faculty for payroll related inquiries 

Qualifications

  • 3–5  years of in-house payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and principles; payroll functions and procedures; federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Experience working in higher education desired
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Minimum level of education required is an associate degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately process a substantial amount of information consistently
  • Ability to take and execute direction from multiple sources and perform a variety of data tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Effective computer skills necessary; prior experience working within a Datatel/Ellucian environment preferred
  • Provide “back-up” support to coworkers as necessary in processing staff and student payroll
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team
