This position primarily writes original creative and strategic content to attract and inform external constituents: magazine and social media features, news releases, news articles and e-news briefs, Web site content, copy for student recruitment materials, and all manner of print and digital material for projects that the Marketing and Communications organization is responsible for creating, producing, and delivering. The Writer also utilizes specialized expertise and independent discretion to shape written works to meet strategic marketing and communications goals. To help the team stay apprised of news and select and develop potential stories, s/he collaborates on media relations efforts and builds and maintains a network of internal sources and story leads. A crucial but lesser part (less than 50 percent) of the job is to edit, proofread, project-manage, and generally support the expert, timely publication of these projects; s/he fulfills internal/external requests for marketing/communications materials and writing assistance; creates, tracks, and secures content for projects; and collaborates to meet schedules for the creation of print and Web strategically branded marketing materials. This position has a diversity of duties and responsibilities that require considerable judgment and responsibilities are often executed without specific direction.
