Title: Career Counselor

Department - Career Development

Type - Full-time staff

Description

This position is responsible for providing students individual and group career and job search counseling including self-assessment; exploration; assisting students define and work toward their career goals; decision making; conducting skills presentations; assisting students in using online resources and systems to access career resources. The position includes coordinating organizational and administrative requirements that support comprehensive career development services/programs for students and alumni.

Essential Functions

  • Meet with students and alumni to provide career guidance
  • Research career options for art + design students
  • Assist in identifying professional resources for students and alumni
  • Conceptualize, implement, conduct and evaluate career development workshops and presentations for students and alumni—workshop topics to be identified and scheduled in conjunction with the Director, on a term-by-term basis
  • Co-manage, with the Director, the Career Chats Program
  • Manage the Annual Graduate Employment Survey—coordinate the collection of data including conducting survey via mail, e-mail, phone; compile data; generate statistical information; prepare and distribute Survey Report
  • Attend and assist as needed at various Career Development programs (On-Campus Recruitment, The Dot Exchange Receptions, Workshops)
  • Represent the College and the Office of Career Development at professional organizations and meetings as needed
  • Interact with diverse groups and individuals, both internal and external, in delivering the services of the Career Development Office
  • Assist in the training and supervision of the office

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; BFA or BS with an art + design background preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years prior experience in office administration, including 2+ years of career counseling experience preferably in an art and design higher education environment
  • Sensitivity to career aspirations of artists and designers — must have an understanding of the career paths of artists and designers, with familiarity of the art and design marketplace (companies, communities, etc.)
  • Computer proficiency and demonstrated experience in use of computer applications, database maintenance, and web-based technology
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to work effectively with diverse groups and constituencies including students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and employers
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid CA driver’s license, and must show proof of current insurance
