Associate Director, Online Education Media Production

The Associate Director, Online Education Media Production will collaborate with the Director, Online Education Media Production, to create innovative media for innovative teaching and learning. This proactive, self-starting leader will have knowledge of innovative trends in film and video as well as strong technical production skills, team-building skills, planning/organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in film and rich media production or related field from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years of experience and a proven track record creating innovative, professional film, video, and media
  • Deep knowledge of trends in media and ability to create teaching and learning content
  • Able to shoot, direct, and edit work with strict deadlines, assuring attention to detail and dedication to accuracy and experienced using project management software            
  • Must be effective in building teams, conflict resolution, and relationships both inside and outside of the College
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (oral and written), effective customer service, collaborative, courteous problem solving and conflict resolution skills, and analytical skills
  • Present a professional, courteous, outgoing personality, and a helpful attitude toward the students, faculty, staff, guest talent, and the public
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment balancing multiple priorities while keeping a positive attitude
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Ability to travel between campuses
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in film and media production or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Prior experience as a Producer/Editor/Director of film, video, and media for higher education
  • Prior knowledge of online, synchronous, asynchronous, and live educational media development
  • Experience leading production crews


Essential Functions

Media Production — 70%

  • Leads and participates in the planning and preparation for in-studio, field and live video/web streaming production assignments; based on the end result/production quality expected; performs the full range of pre- and post-production activities, including audio, video and lighting equipment setup, creation and pre-loading of titles, digital video and audio editing and mixing; creates special effects and adds narration, voice-overs and dubbing; develops and manages the workflows and storage space for saving and storing all video assets
  • Reviews and breaks down the script for production
  • Collaborate with the Director on the technical aspects of making film, videos, and media, including storyboarding staging, lighting, camera work, visual design principles: shoot, direct, and edit work with strict deadlines, assuring attention to detail and dedication to accuracy
  • Lead and supervise production teams in the  conceptualization and execution of projects
  • Lead preparations, shooting schedules, crew, casts and oversee locations
  • Collaborate with the Director to create an environment of proactive research into innovations in film, video, and other media that would provide new opportunities for ArtCenter Online learners
  • Implement the goals and outcomes of each learning experience and build the most innovative, supportive media
  • Prepare documentation for processes and projects, including new templates/forms
  • Collaborate with Director to develop and manage end-to-end project plans, setting milestones and managing communication between all constituents
  • Align projects into doable actions, coordinate tasks with project manager, provide regular status updates
  • Problem solve/manage dependencies to ensure on-time delivery
  • Identify project risks and conflicts then work with Director, Project Manager, and Associate Provost and other key stakeholders to resolve 

Manage and Produce Video Assets -25%

  • Responsible for the overall management of the studio space, cloud video storage space, makes recommendations for purchases and repairs of equipment.
  • Ensure that ArtCenter Online and Heavin Studio equipment and spaces are outfitted with the most appropriate equipment and tools; maintaining the current equipment and suggesting additional most critical equipment needs for the next fiscal budget cycle
  • Identifies, secures and tracks any equipment for productions projects
  • Establishes and maintains vendor contacts for equipment research and purchase; negotiates and schedules contract work with outside production facilities
  • Maintains accurate and complete video and digital media libraries; archives graphic images and maintains an image database; arranges for major maintenance and repairs of equipment;

Other — 5%

  • Assist with special internal projects and other duties as assigned in collaboration with other departments, as needed
  • Serve on college-wide committees
  • Other duties as needed

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time viewing computer monitor; interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is regular exposure to fumes, dust and noise.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in both a studio and an office/campus setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to heavy amounts of weight (up to 50 pounds); to operate modern production equipment and office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Regular and consistent attendance are required for most positions. Must be able to travel between campuses. Able to work nights and weekends to attend events.

Driver’s License: Primary functions require valid driver’s license and physical ability to drive a van.

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
