Mosaic: Work by ArtCenter Staff

The colors, voices and stories that shaped the community

May 10 through May 29, 2024 on view at the Hutto-Patterson Exhibition Hall (870-100A), the Project Space (870-213), and the Dedicated Gallery (870-214)

Opening reception: Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 6 until 8 p.m., performances begin at 6:30 p.m.

Mosaic: Work by ArtCenter Staff is a transdisciplinary exhibition that features artwork created by staff members across departments. The exhibit celebrates the diversity of this collaboration and showcases the multifaceted talents of our staff at ArtCenter College of Design.

Just as a mosaic is greater than the sum of its parts, so too are we strengthened by the collective contributions of each artist, opening up opportunities for engagement and cross-pollination of ideas.

We invite you to explore the intersections where distinct perspectives converge and immerse yourself in the kaleidoscope of creativity and community envisioned by the artists. The opening reception will also feature live performances by talented staff members of the College.

"In Mosaic, arrays of styles, mediums, techniques and voices are woven into a rich, complex, collective tapestry,” says Jennifer Faist, artist, director of collections and systems at the ArtCenter Library, and the staff art exhibition committee chair. “As ArtCenter is often regarded as notable for nurturing up-and-coming artists and designers, it should come as no surprise that many staff members are also creatives themselves.” Jennifer continued.

Following the immense success of last year’s debut exhibition, In Focus, the showcase hopes to become a standing tradition to celebrate the remarkable works of ArtCenter staff. The exhibition is made possible by the Offices of the President and the Provost, Exhibitions, and Staff Council.

ArtCenter’s president and chief executive officer, Karen Hofmann, started her career as a designer and avidly supports the artistic talents of the College’s entire community, from students to faculty and staff. “It is a privilege to have so many staff members at ArtCenter who are actively engaged in a variety of design and art-making processes and who so are well-versed in the language of creativity,” Hofmann said.

Through vibrant exhibits of artistry, creative expression, and performances, the exhibition hopes to showcase the unique roster of talents that weave the dynamic tapestry of ArtCenter’s vivid artistic scene. As a collective effort of the ArtCenter Staff Council, Mosaic: Work by ArtCenter Staff is dedicated to providing a platform that fosters empowerment and diverse voices.

About ArtCenter Staff Council: Staff Council was started in 2013 with a mission to create an environment where the entire staff is empowered and valued. Staff Council acts as an advocacy body for all ArtCenter staff members, directly providing recommendations to the president on issues and policies affecting staff.

About Hutto-Patterson Exhibition Hall: The Hutto-Patterson Exhibition Hall features a diverse rotation of art, sculpture and mural exhibitions within South Campus’ thriving collaborative nucleus for the visual arts. Bathed in beautiful natural light streaming in from a spectacular skylight, the space is a jewel nestled in the home base for ArtCenter’s Fine Art and Illustration departments at the 870 building. Renovation of the former U.S. Postal Service property was made possible in part because of the generosity of the Hutto-Patterson Charitable Foundation, providing a dramatic atrium space in the center of the building to showcase work created by students, faculty and visiting artists through a carefully curated lineup of exhibitions accompanied by public lectures and special events.
